Yesterday, Tyler and I had made plans to go to Chattanooga to buy Josie a new car seat. So we got up and got ready and we took Josie to Mama's house so she could hang out there and play with Aiden while we were gone. Well, we headed to Dalton and ate lunch at Five Guys. They had been calling for storms all day, but it was still clear out when we left. We got in the car and headed toward Walmart because we were going to run in really quickly and look at their carseats before we drove all the way to Chattanooga. We made it to Walmart (like 3 minutes away from Five Guys) and we looked up and saw black clouds going really quickly towards us. We turned into Walmart and within 30 seconds, the bottom fell out and we couldn't see anything around us or in front of us. The car was rocking and felt like it was going to flip over. I was sooooo scared!
I turned down an aisle to try to find a parking spot but I couldn't see the cars around me. I didn't know if I was in the middle of the aisle or not, not to mention the people running everywhere. It was so scary, we couldn't see anything and then out of nowhere there would be a person running by my car. I looked over to my left and somehow, thank goodness, there was a parking spot there. It was angled the other way, but I had to take a chance and try to park. We were seriously thinking of leaving the car there in the middle of the aisle, but I didn't want someone hitting it and getting hurt because they couldn't see.
We managed to park and I got my purse and my phone ready. The car was slamming from side to side and I just knew that we were going to flip. We knew the direction that the store was in, so we got ready, counted to 3 and jumped out. The second we stepped out, we were soaked. Tyler was in the passenger seat so he went around the back of the car. When I got out, I panicked because I couldn't see him. I was standing beside my door and he was at the back of the car and we couldn't see each other. I ran forward and grabbed his hand and we took off running. I was wearing flats and I lost one on the aisle where the car was, and the other one flew off near the door.
We made it to the doors and the power was off, so the electric doors wouldn't open. There were people standing all inside the door way with their hands over their mouths. Tyler grabbed where the doors are supposed to open and pryed them apart. He got them about 6 inches and then used his body to force them the rest of the way open. NO ONE HELPED HIM! I couldn't believe that they were going to stand there and watch us be blown away. It amazed me.
Once we were inside, we took about 5 steps and the doors blew off. THE HUGE ELECTRIC DOORS BLEW OFF! We took off running to the center of the store. There were no lights on and everyone was panicking. The employees kept telling us to go to the outside walls! I don't think so! We stayed in the middle of the store and started texting. I texted Mama to warn her to get the kids ready because the storm was heading their way. Not even 5 minutes after it hit us, it hit them. I was so terrified but all I wanted to do was get to Josie.
Finally they told everyone that they could leave, so we took the chance. We ran to the car (I found my shoes!) and high tailed it home. Huge trees were down everywhere and power lines were over the roads.
We finally made it home and I was so happy to see Josie! Apparently she got hungry right in the middle of the storm and they had to feed her while taking cover. lol. Mama just got power back a few hours ago and there are still tons of people without power.
I have never been so scared in my life but I'm so glad that everyone made it out safe. I haven't heard yet, but I'm pretty sure it was a small tornado. I will update when I find out.
I'm going to go hug Josie and feed her dinner. I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful family!
Until tomorrow! :)
